Seoul : Crepes at La Celtique (라쎌틱)

La Celtique - Kitchen

16th December 2012.
Seoul, South Korea
La Celtique, located in a corner of Sinchon is a cosy little French eatery specialized in crepes. The chef is from Bretagne in France, the region known for its crepes. The crepes are considered expensive around Seoul with dessert crepes around 4000-7000 KRW and savoury ones around 9000 - 16000 KRW.

Despite the prices, I am glad I gave La Celtique a try because the crepes were really good in general. The crepes were well executed with the right texture with quality toppings and ice cream. We had the Myrtille (6500 KRW), a sweet crepe with blueberry sauce, whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. The combination of sour blueberry sauce and sweet vanilla ice cream was a perfect match.

For a something lighter, the Citron Miel (4500 KRW) with lemon and honey is a simple but satisfying sweet crepe. Some find it a little too sour though.

The La Creole (6500 KRW) features caramelized bananas, quality vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, caramel and walnut and dusted with cinnamon powder. It was really good too. A similar variant featuring caramelized apples is La Celtique (7000 KRW).

At La Celtique, we also spotted a Moelleux au Chocolat (4500 KRW), otherwise known as Molten Lava Cake. It was really petite but the chocolate lava was so good. According to the chef, it was made with top quality Valrhona chocolate. The chocolate cake itself was not too dry and it has a berry sauce to balance out the rich, sweet chocolate lava.

Lastly, we shared a cup of Chocolat Chaud (5500 KRW), or hot chocolate. It was the perfect drink for a cold winter night.
