Salt Tapas & Bar - Comfort Food on a Sunday

Raffles Hotel

24th February 2013.
It was one those rare days with good weather yesterday.

Salt Tapas & Bar - Interior

After some Vietnamese noodles, I spent my remaining vouchers at Salt Tapas and Bar. It felt weird because just years ago I expended all my vouchers at the same spot when the place used to be Double Bay. I was quite full by then so I had the Jamon and Manchego Croquettes with Basil Mayo (12.00++ SGD).

These croquettes were golden fried to perfection, the exterior wasn’t oily and and it was crispy. The inside is a juicy potato mash embedded with bits of jamon and mixed with manchego, a rather mild kind of cheese made with sheep’s milk but but has a distinctive taste. The Basil Mayo was a nice complement which adds a herbal touch to the appetizer and at the same time plays down the heaviness of this appetizer.

Salt Tapas & Bar - Churros

Next, I had the Churros and Chocolate Sauce (11.00++ SGD), my first time sampling this sweet raved about by my friends who been to Spain. It was basically very nicely fried dough with a delicate crust. The inside has a soufflé cake-like texture…it reminded me of a denser version of a Krispy Kreme doughnut dusted with plenty of fine sugar.

The rich, dark chocolate sauce however, makes a winning combination with the churros and for a touch of indulgence, you could dip them into the whipped cream provided, the whipped cream helps to give it a smoother finish and lightens the richness of the chocolate and churros combo.

Salt Tapas & Bar - Chai Latte

Lastly, I had a cup of Chai Latte (which was listed under “Coffee”). My 6.50++ SGD Chai Latte came with a very smooth milk foam but it was way too sweet, over powering the spices within the tea. According to the menu, the teas are from Toby’s Estate, an Australian tea and coffee vendor.

For more information you could refer to their website’s menus. They also offer a set lunch menu which include 3 kinds of tapas of your choice for 33.50++ SGD. On top of that, I also spot a Group Menu which allows you to sample most of their dishes.
