Kyoto : Divine Hakata-style Ramen from Ikkousha (一幸舎)

博多 一幸舎

21st December 2012.
Kyoto, Japan.
If you are a ramen lover, Kyoto Station really makes it easy to try the various regional ramen in one place. Located on the 10th Floor of Isetan is Ramen Street which features a number of ramen stalls from all over Japan from Kyoto, Tokyo and Hakata.

Known for its rich, milky tonkotsu broth, Hakata-style ramen is one of my favourite kinds of ramen and running short of time, I headed straight to Ikkousha for a quick dinner. Ordering was seamless. You insert your money into a vending machine and select what ramen you want and voilah! Just grab and seat and wait for the waiter to bring you your sinful and delicious bowl of Hakata-style ramen.

Ikkousha’s ramen was nothing short of awesome. My bowl of ramen arrived with 4 huge slices of tasty char siu, their signature ajitama with slightly fluid egg yolk with generous toppings of spring onions. Beneath is an almost flawless thin, springy noodles and black fungus. The milky soup was mellow with rich smell of pork bones. And on top of that, the ramen wasn’t very oily at all. This bowl of ramen is easily one of my best thus far. One bowl of their signature ramen cost around 950 Yen (but its all worth it!)
